BMW X5: Removing And Installing/Replacing Front Compression Strut
IMPORTANT: Observe safety when raising the vehicle.
Driving without compression struts is not permitted!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody panelling (rear section).
Release screws (1).
Release screw (3).
Tightening torque.
Release screw (2) and remove compression strut (4).
Secure rear axle carrier by inserting screw (2).
Installation:
Check threads for damage; if necessary, repair with Helicoil thread inserts.
Tightening torque.

Remove rear wheel.

Unscrew nut (1).
Remove joint disc (2), support bearing upper section (3) and support bearing
flange (4).
Installation:
Insert support bearing upper section (3) correctly in support bearing flange
(4).
Replace self-locking nut.
Tighten
(cylinder bank 1 to 4)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
Remove servomotor for right eccentric shaft.
Remove ignition coils on cylinder bank 1 to 4.
Remove right cylinder head cover.
Remove spark plugs on cylinder bank 1 to 4.
Remove right inlet and exhaust adjustment units.
Remove slide rail (1)
