BMW X5: Removing And Installing/Replacing Backrest Frame For Left Rear Seat (Through - Loading System)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Release screws (1).

Installation:

Replace screws and insert with Loctite.

Tightening torque 52 26 07AZ.

Remove lock for centre armrest.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BACKREST FRAME FOR RIGHT REAR SEAT (THROUGH-LOADING SYSTEM)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR PANEL ON LEFT REAR SEAT BACK

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Unclip lock trim on backrest edge in direction of arrow (1).

Slide back of lock trim in outward direction and remove in direction of arrow (2).

Installation:

Retaining lugs on trim must not be damaged.

Version without ski bag:

Lever backrest cover all round out of backrest frame.

Version with ski bag:

Lever backrest cover all round out of backrest frame.

Detach rear panel (2) with flat scraper (1) from rear seat back.

Installation:

Comply with instructions issued by manufacturer of universal spray adhesive.

Apply universal spray adhesive to rear panel and rear seat back.

Fit and align rear panel within the air drying time (See manufacturer's instructions).

Observe and adhere to curing time to prevent rear panels from slipping.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR PANEL ON RIGHT REAR SEAT BACK

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Unclip lock trim on backrest edge in direction of arrow (1).

Slide back of lock trim in outward direction and remove in direction of arrow (2).

Installation:

Retaining lugs on trim must not be damaged.

Lever backrest cover all round out of backrest frame.

Detach rear panel (2) with flat scraper (1) from rear seat back.

Installation:

Comply with instructions issued by manufacturer of universal spray adhesive.

Apply universal spray adhesive to rear panel and rear seat back.

Fit and align rear panel within the air drying time (See manufacturer's instructions).

Observe and adhere to curing time to prevent rear panels from slipping.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RELEASE UNIT FOR LEFT OR RIGHT BACKREST

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Release screw (1).

Remove release unit (1) in direction of arrow.

Disengage Bowden cable from release unit.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LOCK FOR LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SEAT BACKREST

Unclip lock trim on backrest edge in direction of arrow (1).

Slide back of lock trim in outward direction and remove in direction of arrow (2).

Installation:

Retaining lugs on trim must not be damaged.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Insert plastic wedge from outside between trim (1) and lock.

Carefully lever outer side of trim (1) with plastic wedge upwards out of catch.

Lever inner side of trim (1) with plastic wedge out of catch.

Remove trim upwards.

Lever out backrest cover (1) in working area.

Release screws and feed lock (1) out of rear seat backrest.

Tightening torque 52 26 05AZ.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR MIDDLE HEAD RESTRAINT

Press lock (2) and move head restraint upwards to maximum extent.

Pull out head restraint (1) firmly.

Press lock (2) and move head restraint upwards to maximum extent.
