BMW X5: License Plate Lights

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT NUMBER/LICENSE PLATE LIGHT

Special tools required:

WARNING: Follow instructions for handling light bulbs (exterior lights).

Lever license plate light (1) with special tool. See RELEASE HOOK out of rear bumper trim (2).

Unlock plug connection underneath and disconnect.

Remove license plate light (1).

The ignition system on modern BMW engines consist of one ignition coil per cylinder. This arrangement is known as RZV, or Direct Stationary Ignition. The ignition coil receives fused power usually from the DME main relay or IVM (N62). The ignition coil primary circuit is controlled (triggered) by

When performing cylinder leakage tests, the following tips might be helpful: Remove all spark plugs to allow easier rotation of the engine. (If this test is done after a compression test, the plugs should already be out). Perform the leakage test on all cylinders, not just the problem cylinder.
