BMW X5: Replacing Rear Left Side Panel (Partial Replacement, Longitudinal
Member Cover Before B-Pillar)

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle. Observe specific procedure.
Use only approved spot-welding apparatus for repairs!
Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are
susceptible to heat or dust.
Following new body parts are required:
- Side frame, rear
- Shaped part, entrance, outer (not shown)

Mark severance cuts in accordance with specified measurements and cut.
IMPORTANT: Cut outer metal sheet only.
Measurement a = approx. 260 mm from roof edge
Measurement b = approx. 420 mm from centerpoint of hole dia. 20 mm.
Severance cut (c) in centerpoint of 15 mm dia. hole
Open weld joints in areas (1) and (4).
Installation information:
- Apply window glass adhesive to cavity acoustic baffles (2) and (3).
In area (3) move cavity acoustic baffle approx. 20 mm downwards.
- Weld in reinforcing panels at all severance cuts.
- Bond and rivet new part in area (4).
Use Hemlock 813 blind rivet (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service picture
board - Aluminum and
steel/bonding and welding).
Double number of rivets with respect to welding spots in area (4).
Open adhesive joints in areas (1) and (2).
Open weld joint in area (1).
Installation information:
Welding spot is omitted from area (1).
Glue new part in areas (1) and (2).
Apply window glass adhesive to cavity acoustic baffle (3).

Minor corrections (realignment work) are permitted if the existing
adjustment options are not sufficient.

Swinging arm, front/rear, to rear axle carrier
Swinging arm to integral link / wheel carrier
Integral link to wheel carrier
