BMW X5: Replacing Rear Axle Carrier
WARNING: Danger to life!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear differential.
- Remove rear axle carrier and if necessary with other workers assisting
set down on a suitable surface.
Remove brake lines.
Remove stabilizer bar.
Version with Dynamic Drive: Disconnect control lines for oscillating motor of
rear axle from rear axle carrier.
Remove actuating unit (EMF).
Remove both brake discs.
Remove ride-height sensor(s).

Remove both swinging arms on rear axle carrier.
Remove both control arms on rear axle carrier.
Remove both guide arms on rear axle carrier.
Remove both wheel carriers with output shaft, swinging arm and suspension
arms.

Take rear axle carrier down from special tool with assistance of a 2nd person
and set down on a suitable
surface.
Installation:
Use previous rear axle carrier as a template for modifying or replacing small
parts.

After installation:
- Activate and fill air suspension system.
- Carry out ride-height-calibration.
- Bleed braking system.
- Perform CHASSIS ALIGNMENT CHECK.
- If necessary, carry out initial Dynamic Drive operation.

One of the major changes on the new NG6 engines is that the crankcase
ventilation system has been upgraded
and improved. This applies to all of the new NG6 versions (N52KP, N51 and N54).
There are two distinct versions of crankcase ventilation. One type is unique to
the N54 and the other applies
Special tools required:
52 0 050.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
Remove rear seat.
Remove rear panel trim.
Disengage welt in marked area from seat mechanism.
Disengage welt in marked area from seat mechanism.
Installation:
Make sure metal lugs in welt are correctly engaged.
