BMW X5: Replacing Padding For Front Seat Thigh Support

Necessary preliminary tasks:

NOTE: Picture shows versions with air conditioning and seat heating.

Feed out seat cover (1) in area (2).

Installation:

Seat cover (1) is fastened by hooks in trim (3).

Remove plug connections (4) and feed out through trim (3).

Remove trim (3); if necessary, remove padding or cover.

Version with seat heating or air conditioning: Feed out cable (1) and remove padding (2).

Installation:

Ensure correct cable routing (1).

REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT (COMFORT)

This operation is identical to:

Removing and installing front seat (normal/electric), left or right.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SEAT FRAME ON LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT (COMFORT)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove wiring harness (1) from seat frame (2).

Release rivets (1) on left and right, remove fastening strips (2) on left and right.

Release screws (3).

Tightening torque 52 10 6AZ.

Remove seat frame.

Installation:

When replacing backrest or seat frame, break off centring hooks (1) from seat frame.

The new seat frame part contains all the drives.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ADJUSTING UNIT FOR THIGH SUPPORT ON LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Move thigh support forwards as far as possible.

Release screws (1).

Detach compressor (2) complete with holder (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Attach holder (3) in area (5).

Disconnect plug connection (4) on drive.

Release screws in areas (1).

Feed out adjusting unit (2) complete with drive in direction of arrow and remove.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BACKREST FEAME ON LEFT OR RIGHT SEAT (COMFORT)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Release all cable ties on wiring harness (1).

Disconnect all marked plug connections.

Feed through wiring harness (1) at bottom right on backrest frame.

Unclip left and right clips (1).

Unhook seat covers (2) on left and right.

Release left and right screws (3).

Tightening torque 52 10 2AZ. If necessary, remove lumbar cushion with drive and valve block.

Remove backrest frame.

Installation:

When replacing backrest or seat frame, break off centring hooks (1) from seat frame.

NOTE: The new backrest frame part contains all the drives.

Before installing, check whether backrest frame has a date of manufacture after September 2004.
