BMW X5: Replacing Cover On Backrest Side Section

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disengage cover in marked area from rest side section.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SEAT (FOR 3RD SEAT ROW)

Right rear seat is removed in the same way as the left rear seat depicted here.

Unclip cover (1) on left and right and remove in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Replace faulty cover.

Release screws (1) on left and right.

Tightening torque 52 26 10AZ.

Release screw (1).

Remove cover (2) in direction of arrow.

Fold rear seat backwards forwards.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 52 26 10AZ. Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! Cover sill and entrance area with protective covers.

Slide rear seat forwards (guide pin out of guide).

Lift rear seat with a 2nd person helping out of vehicle.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING REAR SEAT

Unclip rear seat on left and right towards top.

Installation:

Feed seat belt buckles (1) into openings in rear seat.

Release screw (1) on seat belt (middle).

Tightening torque 72 11 22AZ.

Installation:

Seat belt is coded against incorrect installation.

Feed out anchor fitting (2) through rear seat.

If necessary, unlock and disconnect plug connection for seat heating.

Lift out rear seat.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT/RIGHT SIDES OF BACKREST ON REAR SEAT BACKREST (THROUGH-LOADING)

Pull seat belt to middle and place behind head restraint.

Unclip backrest side section in direction of arrow (1) towards front and pull out in direction of arrow (2).

If necessary, pull out clip (1) towards front.

Check clip (1) and locator (2) for damage.

Snap clip (1) into locator (2) of backrest side section.

Insert guides (1) into locators.

Clip backrest side section at top into place.

Installation:

Make sure backrest side section is correctly seated in locators.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ARMREST FOR REAR SEAT BACKREST (THROUGH-LOADING SYSTEM)

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 52 26 03AZ.

Twist out armrest in direction of arrow from backrest frame.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CUP HOLDERS IN CENTRE ARMREST

Unclip trim (1) with plastic wedge.

Installation:

Replace trim (1) if retaining lugs are faulty.

Lever cup holders on left and right out of centre armrest with plastic wedge.

Remove cup holders from centre armrest.
