BMW X5: Removing And Installing/Replacing Centre Console For 3Rd Seat Row

Release screws (1).

Remove centre console (1) towards top.

Installation:

Feed centre console (1) with guides into trim (2).

Version with rear cabin fan only:

Unclip ventilation grille (1).

Unclip operating unit (1).

Set down operating unit (1) in downward direction in centre console.

Lift centre console (1) on left and right over air outlet. Remove centre console (1) towards top.

Installation:

Feed centre console (1) with guides into trim (2).

REMOVING AND INSTALLING GAP COVER FOR FLOOR PANEL ON LEFT OR RIGHT

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Remove luggage compartment floor panel

Release screws (1).

Remove gap cover (2).

REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT TRIM FOR 3RD SEAT ROW ON LEFT OR RIGHT

Release screws (1).

Remove trim (2).

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT SEAT BACKREST FRAME

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Remove 3rd seat row.
• Remove backrest cover.
• Removing actuating mechanism for rear seat backrest.
• Remove outer trim.

Detach Starlock washer (1) from shaft.

Remove shaft.

Installation:

Detach Starlock washer (1) from shaft. Remove shaft. Installation: Fit left and right plastic sleeves on shaft.

Release fitting screws (1).

Tightening torque: 52 30 02AZ.

Release outer bearing screw (1).

Tightening torque: 52 30 03AZ.

Remove seat backrest frame (2) from assembly frame.

Replacement only:

• Removing seat fabric.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT SEAT BACKREST FRAME

Operation is identical to:

• Removing right seat backrest frame.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR PANEL ON LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SEAT BACKREST

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Remove trim for release unit.

NOTE: The right side is removed in the same way as the left side.

Unclip rear panel from backrest frame.

Installation:

Replace faulty clips.

Insert rear panel with guide at bottom into backrest.

REPLACING BOWDEN CABLE FOR LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SEAT BACKREST

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Disengage Bowden cable nipple from actuating unit.

Unclip Bowden cable (1) from backrest frame.

Unhook Bowden cable nipple (2).

Feed out Bowden cable from backrest frame.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ACTUATING MECHANISM FOR REAR SEAT BACKREST

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Remove backrest cover.

Unclip trim (1) and feed out from release lever (2).

Installation:

Retaining lugs must not be damaged.

If necessary, replace faulty trim (1).

Press in detent lugs and remove release unit (1).

Disengage Bowden cable sleeve (1) from actuating unit (2).

Carefully press retaining lug (1) back with screwdriver and feed Bowden cable nipple (2) out of actuating unit.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT REAR HEAD RESTRAINT

Move head restraint (1) upwards to maximum extent.

Press lock (2) and pull out head restraint.
